It wasn't horrible really... actually it started out for me really well! My open went awesome but the AKM.. we'll call him Bob didn't come in for his shift. I couldn't even call him (we need a staff phone list asap and I am going to mention it to them) because the phone numbers were on the computer in the office.. doesn't do me much good on the line, huh?
Anyway I was fine online by myself for the remaining 45 minutes before the next person started and I did the best I could. I did as much prep as was essential and I left the non essential stuff for later. So whent he next guy (Jim) comes in I told him the sich and we did our best to run the line and we did it really well but finally Jim had to say something because Bob was running on two hours late. I asked if I could go offline to call Bob and as the owner was getting me his number Bob called.
Apparently he was out drinking last night and the DD got drunk too, so they were stuck out of town. He said he'd try and be there within the hour. Well an hour turned into two then turned into the whole shift ... I stayed until close of business at 3pm.. because..
We got KILLED!! I have no idea where they were coming from but there was a steady stream through the door and just when we thought we had a breather.. along came more orders.
At one point the owner came to me and asked if it would help us if he were to put on whites and do meats and I said... would you? that would be wonderful! While he didn't help is in terms of speed (orders were late and he told the FOH to give kid sized smoothies to everyone as a thank you for their patience) he kept us in meats and potatoes and that was what we needed! We all made sure to thank him for his help because he really saved our a$$es today!!
I think Bob is in some big doo doo.. at one point the owner was considering walking papers as this is not the first time Bob has done this kind of thing!
