So i'm new :D

Hello. My name is Missy and i'm 18 years old. I'm a senior at High School and ever since my 8th grade year i knew i loved cooking and wanted to become a chef.

I'm currently taking an Intro to Culinary Arts class and i LOVE it.

but lately i've been having doubts. is there anywhere in this forum where i can ask some chefs questions about their jobs? i think it would really help me out.

Hello Missy and welcome to Chef Talk. We welcome all culinary enthusiasts regardless of level of expertise, experience or knowledge. It's great to hear that you've taken the first steps in your culinary education while in high school. Has your high school guidance department been of some help? (I ask this with my fingers crossed. I'm a retired teacher. :D)

I don't know where you live (I'll take a guess that you're in the US or Canada), but you probably have culinary training programs at junior colleges (or as we have in Wisconsin, Technical Colleges) where you can take your next steps. Others in your situation have had similar questions. I suggest you visit the Culinary Schools / Culinary Students' forum and do a search there for earlier threads and posts. You're welcome to post questions there as well as in the General Forums. However, the Professionals' forums are "read only" for non-professionals like you and me. They read and post in the general forums too, and we have several culinary instructions among our moderators and members.

Let me or any moderator know if you have questions about the board. We'll be happy to help. Enjoy the site: forums, photo galleries, cooking articles, blogs, etc.

Wow well thanks for clearing that out :)

and yes my high school guidance department had been of some help. I live in GA and we actually went to Nationals and are #1 in the state (my Culinary Arts class).

Fantastic! Jim, who's an administrator/moderator here, is an instructor. His students have also performed with excellence. If you search the Culinary schools forum, you may find some articles about their success.

Hi,

Ask away, I've been in catering as a chef for 27 year and now manage a large kitchen with a diverse range of chefs from different counties and ages. My youngest chefs are both 18 and my oldest is 47. Both my kids want to be chefs in the future and love to visit me at work. I'm happy to answer any questions you have.
