Growing a caper bush

One of my boyfriend's favorite things is a nice big jar of capers. He puts them on everything ranging from scrambled eggs to pizza. I bought him some caper bush seeds for his birthday but we haven't done anything with them yet. Has anyone ever tried growing and/or pickling caper buds?

Growing capers

Caper plants (technically "subshrubs") are easy to grow -- provided that you live in a Mediterranean-type climate. You need warm, dry summers and cool -- not cold -- wet winters.

They are short, trailing plants with an extensive root system. Not good in containers for long. They love sunny sites and a perfectly-drained soil.

Caper processing is a matter of picking tight flower buds and pickling them. Lots of recipes on line.
