I am new to serious baking, and as a ceramics artist, I am intriqued by cake decorating. My daughter literally dragged me to "Cake Camp" in Las Vegas, from which we returned on Monday past. I think I have fallen in love with cake design and decoration (-thank you, daughter!).
Now I am in my research phase, looking for vegitarian and vegan alternatives to shortenings and gelatins. I am happy to be here and hope to learn a lot!

All of the discussion forums are open to you for reading, but home cooks like you and I should consider the professionals' forums as "read only". We have a good search tool to help you locate earlier discussions on topics of interest to you. You're welcome to post in the general forums, and we hope you will.

I know we have bakers here to prepare cakes for vegan customers, so a search will yield a number of discussion threads. Beside the discussion forums, don't miss the blogs, cooking articles and the photo gallery. (I have a fumbling first effort on a fondant-covered cake there.)
