All asleep I suppose?

Gidday. I'm from Australia (don't hold that against me) and pretty sure there's no one awake over there at the moment.

I grew up in a restaurant. My father was a chef, my uncles ran a huge catering company, (football stadiums, airports, etc) and hospitality was all I ever knew. Even my own brother became a chef and owns a hotel in Sydney. I knew better of course, graduated from university and became a journalist. Had a midlife crisis and bought a run-down 100 seat cafe/bistro, (I'm talking closed down by the Health Dep't run down !!) Spent 5 months doing it up, opened in February this year and just turned over my first $600,000 (oh joy, oh joy!!). Haven't made a cent in profit though but now have 14 employees. So there, crazy or what?

Wow, very brave I must say! I have an Aussie Chef working for me in Cambridge, UK. He's forever telling me how great life is in Sydney and I'm forever asking what's he doing here!

lol, best of luck!

Thank you for the introduction, CafeDiva, and welcome to Chef Talk. Somebody's here nearly all the time, as we're from literally all over the globe- occasionally from Antarctica as well.

I sense your energy for, and joy in your work. I hope you bring that to your participation here. Good luck with your ventures, and we hope to see you as often as your busy life allows.

Welcome!

Hi Cafediva,

You'll love this place - as you know, people keep weird hours anyhow in the cooking industry. There's a number of us from Australia, and all over the world, chefs, cooks, cooks at home etc etc. But it's a great place, and I hope you enjoy it.

I'm from northern Tassie (well last 6 years, originally Adelaide, then Darwin), but moving to Melboourne soon. Not a profesional in the cooking world, but done some time (sounds like a jail sentence :) ) in kitchens.

Cheers,
DC

I'm from the other side of the world to you, ie UK.... the membership here covers nearly all time zones, so there is normally someone online from somewhere! However, this is the welcome forum, and only a small percentage of the membership visits here, so if you'd posted in one of the other fora on here, BINGO!
