Apple Pie

decided we wanted apple pie today.....so had to go get some apples first...

Jonathans it was...(and some Crispens for later...)

I still suck at baking/crusts, etc. but the crust was the best crust i've ever made....very very very flaky.

Wow, I envy you for the pies and also for the possibility of picking your own apples.
And if that is how you suck at making crusts, I wonder how you will be when you perfect it!

first put 2 shot glasses of Applejack (Lairds) in the freezer...

2 cups ap flour
3/4 butter flavored crisco, very cold and cubed
1tsp salt

mix salt flour and crisco in a bowl by hand...until its 'crumby' (pinch the crisco lumps with fingers)

take applejack out of freezer. drink 1 shot.

take a 1 or 2 tablepoons of the other and work it in by hand, then add a 1-3 tablespoons of icewater 1 at a time until dough can form a ball.....

roll it out.

Everyone we baked pies for didn't say how great the filling was, but the first thing they mentioned was "how did you make the crust it was the best we've ever had"
