Fruit/Vegetable Seasons

Thread Starter
Does anyone know where I can find a good list of fruits and veges and which months of the year that they're in season? I've searched Google and found a few lists, but nothing is definitive or extensive.

Also, I assume that Northern Hemisphere fruit/vege seasons are 6 months ahead of Southern Hemisphere seasons. Do seasons vary by country?

Thanks

Are you looking for everything all over the world? Or only where you are? If the latter, and you're in the United States, check with the Farm Extension Division of a local university. That still might take a bit of digging, but they would know.

Seasons vary by region -- even smaller area than country. And different farms in each region may plant different (unusual) crops. So it's very difficult to make one comprehensive list of when everything is in season. Such a list may exist, but I don't know where. Maybe someone else here does?

There are many such lists on the 'net, accessible by searching for "Fruits [or Vegetables] by season". But as Suzanne correctly notes, if you're talking local, you're better off checking with your near-by Co-operative Extension.

Here are a few leads, but they are not comprehensive nor regional:

The book, "Culinary Artistry" has a great listing of the seasons and what is at their peak in those seasons. It certainly is not all inclusive, and it really only speaks for the US, but it can be a good starting point.
