One more shift!

That's right.. one more shift and then the soon to be guy I used to work with will be the guy I used to work with!

I'm not the only one jumping for joy either... the entire kitchen is ready to be rid of him.  After his latest stunt I had to talk to the owner just to keep him in the loop and he told me that if he was not going away for so long, he would have been sent packing on Saturday after his shift.

I know there will be some fallout from his latest stunt, but I don't care.  He wanted to trade a shift with another guy and I didn't let him.  I gave the other guy his shift and told him that the other guy had to work today and I would see him on Saturday.  The KM and owner both know why I made the decision I did and frankly I did what was best for the kitchen and ultimately the restaurant.

So tomorrow when we say goodbye to him we'll be smiling... but not for the reasons he thinks we will be!

Congrats on not going totally crazy waiting for the day. Hopefully he'll take with him that little black cloud that used to sit by the idea of going to work.

Thanks Gunnar!

I gotta say.. you know it has to be bad when the dishwashers come to you and ask if he will be back after his trip and if the KM is serious when he says he is counting down the minutes to be rid of him.  This freak can't be so blind not to see that we are unhappy with him.. he barely works, and his attitude is p*** poor on a good day and why do we want someone like that in a family restaurant that has an open kitchen???

I took a shift away from him this week.. he had some crazy story as to why he needed to trade for today and I didn't allow it.  I told him I had his shift covered and I would see him on Saturday.  I need my strongest workers in Fri-Sun and well he is not one of them and honestly we had so much prep to do I had no room on the line for a slacker.  I do suspect some fallout but at this point I will not lie and I will tell him just why I did not allow the trade.  The KM and owners both know and they have copies of the email I sent to him so I know I am safe if he tries to pull a fast one.

I am sooo looking forward to no more stress and no more headaches from him!!

Very happy for you.
Your first shift after he's gone will be one of your best ever.
Eventually you'll get used to him not being there, to the team working together better, and you'll probably take it for granted.
But enjoy it while it's still unusual.

You guys are way to nice in Canada. Waiting to long to fire someone hurts the whole crew. Look how many people this one employee affected. If management does not react to problem employees, then the management becomes the problem, and the reason all the other employees are dis-grunted. It only takes one screwed up employee, to screw up a kitchen. I think your KM needs a kick in the butt, to react faster...................Chef Bill

All depends, I guess, in most provinces, after 3 mths of working, you have all the protection the Gov't agencies can give you,and to fire someone after the probation period is just asking for trouble.  Far better to give the dude one 4 hr shift per week and starve the (deleted) out

I think he slipped through the cracks and he also talks a good line and that got him where he is. He was also friends with our previous two KM's and they did make the mistake of socializing with staff outside of work.  Our current KM does not do that and he did not share the line with this guy until he took over so it took him a few months to see what he is all about.  I told him on Monday that what he is seeing now I saw four months ago and he agreed with me and he did need to see it for himself.

Today will be interesting... I'm not counting on him showing up but if he does he will be on prep.  He thinks prep is beneath him and the KM said he can either do what he is told or go home.

Today was a good day and of course the end of the day was the best.  He did prep..tried to get on the line a few times and the KM and I made sure he stayed on prep.  At the end of the day I put him on the line to help them close but that was it.  Monday is going to be great.. no headaches for the open and no him screwing up the works.

Thanks for putting up with my complaining about him... you guys are the best!
