Join the ChefTalk "Tag Team" - Win a prize

That's right guys and gals we are forming a ChefTalk tag team and we want you to join us. What is a "Tag Team" you ask? It is a group of people who help us tag our discussions (threads) to help promote related content throughout the site. For example you might search out forums for "All-clad" and tag them with "All Clad", "Cookware", or if there is a specific product mentioned tag it with that product.

What's in it for you?


  1. You get to help out ChefTalk and help others more easily find what they are looking for on their site.
  2. Each month anyone who helps tag at least 30 discussions will be entered into a drawing for some nifty prizes.
  3. Did I mention you get to help out your community ChefTalk? 
 

So what are the rules?


  1. Tag at least 30 discussion each month and send me a private message that you have done so. We will review your activity feed to see what threads you have tagged.
  2. You must not tag threads that have already been tagged they have to be threads that have no tags.
  3. You must apply at least one meaningful tag to the discussion (thread). If the thread is about knives then you would choose "cutlery" and if there is a specific product then you would add one or more product tags.
  4. Perfectly fine (in fact encouraged) to tag older discussions. 
  5. Not sure where to start just pick a topic and type it into the search box like: "salmon", "slow cooker", "culinary school" etc etc

  7. Each person who completes tagging 30 threads will be entered into a drawing to win the prize below.
  8. Prize will change each month.
  9. Easiest way to get involved is to tag discussions you are currently involved in or new ones you start.
  10. All are eligible (members, mods).

Hi everyone,

I was just browsing and I noticed this thread and figured I'd chime in about how important tagging is to the new ChefTalk.  Tags are used to tie threads, wikis, product pages, and reviews all together so it is really easy for people to find all of the different information.  For example, I was recently reading this thread about different options for a new chef's knife and I noticed that it mentioned two specific products in the first post: the Misono UX-10 240mm Gyutou, and the Grand Cheff 240mm Gyutou.  Because I added tags for those product pages, the thread now appears on both product pages, the Chef's Knives page, as well as any other page that also has similar tags.  That's significantly more eyes that will be drawn to that thread which will hopefully compel even more people to participate in those threads.  Plus, on the thread page itself, there are now links to the review pages for the products, wiki pages regarding chef's knives (and how to use them), and all sorts of all sorts of other useful information.  All of that is really important for getting new people to the site who find it in Google and other search engines.

By the way, don't forget that if a thread is about a product and that product tag doesn't exist yet, you can add it yourself!  Check out the "Add a New Item Tutorial" to learn how to add a new cookbook, knife, or other product to ChefTalk.

Good luck on the giveaway!  Even though I'm not eligible, I'll be adding at least 30 tags a month just to help out.

Hi Kuan,

You can see a list of all "miscellaneous" tags here: http://www.cheftalk.com/tag.php?action=misc ... that includes all non-product, non-brand tags.  If you would like to see anything added there, such as a tag about technique, you can ping Nicko with that information and he can add it.
