Need New Ideas

Hey Everyone,
               I'm a firefighter and in order to get my weight back down I recently started the US Marine diet. It consists mainly of eating all different sorts of beans, chicken, tuna, salmon and vegetables. I've been on it for two weeks and am already running out of ideas on how to combine them into different good meals. Does anyone have fresh ideas?

Take chicken, and make 1-2 inch cubes and season with a bit of salt and pepper. Saute in a pan over medium high heat until browned on the outside and inside is fully cooked. Set aside and keep warm with foil. Chop some avocados, red onions, celery and add to a bowl. Take a smaller bowl and put in about 3 tbsp. of olive oil, 3 tbsp of vinegar,2 tbsp. of soy sauce, and a bit of mustard and a bit of lemon juice. Whisk together and add vegetables and chicken with all of its juices. Fast, delicious, and really healthy
Also, some tips are eat a good breakfast, with cake and fruit. Fruit is healthy, has vitamin c, and gets you going. The cake is so that later in the day you know that you already ate something you shouldn't have, and you won't crave it as much. Plus, if you eat it for dessert, it will turn to fat. My older brother would always eat sweets earlier in the day when he was losing weight. Now he has 11% body fat and is jacked. You're a fireman and have a tough job, i'm sure you can do it. Good luck.

I never heard of the US Marine Diet, so did a search. Guess what? I still don't know anything about it. Can't find anything that remotely resemebles what you describe.

Can you provide more details?

Presumably the US Marine diet also involves a lot of exercise...

One would think, Blueicus. But firefighting is a pretty physical job, so I don't think that's a problem for the original poster.

Firefighters (at least those in municiple departments) also pride themselves on their cooking skills, and I think others in the firehouse would have good suggestions.

I suggest taking inspiration from a variety of cuisines that use a healthy dose of vegetables, lean proteins and complex carbs.  If you give us some idea of what you've been cooking then I would be able to offer some alternatives.

I tried searching for it too, only came up with exercise regimes and sites trying to sell stuff.

Sounds like a low fat, high fibre, low carb diet.

Alex - soups or stews are great with those ingredients.  Heaps of garlic, onions, bell pepppers sweated off, put your protein in to cook for a few mins, then add some water/ chicken or veg stock, let simmer until meat is done.  Can thicken it with a little cornstarch(cornflour) mixed with some water, S&P to taste.  If you like chillis, slice them up at the end maybe with some green onion tips sliced as well for some extra punch (but very few calories) just till heated thru.

Or get your butcher to mince some chicken and make a chicken chilli con carne - again - onions, garlic, chilli at the start, fry them up, add chicken mince and brown it.  Add tin of diced tomatoes in their sauce and a tin of red kidney beans you've rinsed off.  Bit of chilli powder or some Tabasco if you like it hot.  Cook till its as thick as you like it with the lid off.

Is it fresh salmon your are using? Make a big salad - lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber - whatever you like.  Toast some bread to make into croutons,  Sear your salmon so its only just cooked. Slice it thinly and toss it altogether in a bowl, some balsamic vineger (very few calories) croutons on top - dig in   And don't be afraid to use some olive oil on the salad as well - doesn't have to be much, just a splash - very good for your heart and great for your taste buds.  Instead of salt, use lemon juice and ground pepper - that will jazz it up nicely.
