Can you pleasse assist me substiute for JUNIPER BERRIES;-

Am preparing pork escalopes with onion, marsala  wine, dried porcini,  rosemary, balsamic and garlic, etc.,  the recipe calls for juniper berries which I do not have, is there a substitute please for these berries?

a)1tsp of gin for every 2 berries maybe in with the masala for deglazing.
b)Rosemary (already in there)
c)Don't worry about it...leave it out!
d)Another fruit/berry dried figs, cherries, apricots,cranberries....raspberries?

Many thanks titomike, you are correct about the gin but I don't have any unfortunately,  so as I only use what is already in my storecupboard, took your advice about cranberries, so will add my dried ones,  think I might also use some Bay - use it in practically everything anyhow!!

Think though, next time I shop will buy a little bottle of gin (for cooking you understand) !!

I wouldn't suggest any other kind of berry.  Juniper berries have a very unqiue taste, not very fruity, they're more savoury and musky.  You can order them online here.  They're dried so they keep well.  You are not to miss out on this flavorful ingredient.

 Thank you Koukouvagia,  have noted your comments- I think I shall have to buy some juniper, as  know I shall have many uses for them, but as I live across the Atlantic in United Kingdom will buy them from a supplier here,  I often see them for sale. best wishes
