Man vs Food

Thread Starter

Over the past few months I've seen a number of episodes of this show.  What drivel!  What junk!

It's nothing more than a paean to gluttony, and appears to be quite contrived as well.  It seems that everything Adam Richman (I think that's his name) eats is "delicious!"

However, what he devours appears to be little more than excessive fat and grease, poorly prepared, and overdone to the max.

Why have you seen several episodes? One was one too many for me.

I find it a better alternative to Fieri's DD&D. While I am not a fanatic about it nor do I think he provides an unbiased view, he does introduce little eateries that provide what the people like...big, hearty foods. This is America..some 10 million fat kids...where else these parents gonna take them?

Not to mention the food challenges are (sadly..yeah pm the hate mail please) like a train wreck for me...I have a hard time looking away. To this day I would pit me or my brother against just about any Pizza challenge out there as we have a special vortex of digestion for that particular food substance.

don't blame the guy for living for his dream (I hope)

I will pit my hot wing eating skills against ANYONE. It is something I would love to incorporate in a restaurant. Chili peppers are actually good for you... although deep fried chicken wings aren't, but i love wings. I could do fancy melt your face hot wings "lollipop" style, paired with a milk based shooter of some sort. HAHA.

That said, the gluttony aspect is something I cannot do, nor will I do. I'm a big fan of small plate concepts, as it is a healthier way to eat as well.

DDD is cool... i like seeing diners run by fine dining chef's and bringing high class dining to the people. i also like dives, as they introduce me to new flavors. they are usually run by ma and pa from another country... so its a good experience to me.

There are other people in the household.  One of them thinks the show is a hoot.  If I'm in the TV room when she's tuned to MvsF, I may watch a little.

Man vs. food is a testament to the culture of our love for junk food. I don't watch the show (saw one or two episodes and tried very hard to keep myself from putting my foot through the television screen.) Too many of those places he details should be torn down or closed.

I believe that our collective knowledge of food will very shortly change and soon, these places will no longer be patronized. I can only hope that society will focus more on healthier eating habits and diners, drive-ins, and dives will be a thing of the past.

Whenever I catch it, it's usually cause I am killing time waiting for Bourdain's No Reservations. I don't want to put my foot through the television and I don't think it is all junk food. And I hate to say it but it's part of the food culture and will always be around. Sometimes you just want some good old comfort food. Whether it's a piled high Pastrami, Philly Cheese or a stack of pancakes. People are getting more informed and involved with food these days but as long as the Texas State Fair is around they will find the next deep fried twinkie too.

people love food because it tastes good. fat tastes good. salt tastes good. consult a nutritionist about your menu and you will see its not so easy to be healthy and taste good. you may THINK you are healthy, but most people are surprised.

I don't mind the show at all and if it is on I will keep one eye on it. I rather watch No Reservations or Bizarre Foods.

I can go to the places he has been to in Seattle but I do not go out of my way to visit them or order the 6 pound hamburger if I do.

I was flicking through the channel and stopped at Man vs Food and wondering if the show might be aired in some improvished African country were food is scarce and what their thoughts of show would be.

Personal I find it totally distaste full. A grown man stuffing food into his pie hole.

Nero is fiddling and the palace is burning and six pack johnny know more about football then he does of politics and finances and things that affect his life.

Give me a break, Iron Chef would be at the top of any list for money wasted on food for foods sake. These places are some peoples living and lifesblood. People eat there cause they want to and in America among a few other places around the world , they can. Not all the challenges are about how much food you can eat, some are a heat challenge and some are a sweet challenge, some, simply liquid volume (sadly those are easy to lose), especially since alot of these food challenges come with a time limit. It;s not that the food is so oversized ..it's the amount of time your trying to eat it in.

I can eat half a loaf of sourdough bread and 8oz of cheese easy....in an afternoon at the river. Make that a 15 minute challenge and I have issues with trying to get it down... but that's the challenge.Club Initiation stupid?..maybe. To be held at the International level of whats wrong with America? Not just yet.
