Christmas is Coming..

I know it's only August but I'm planning on making alot of gifts this year so I need to get started early so that I can enjoy December and not feel rushed off of my feet like I do every year and end up abandoning my craft projects and buying last minute pressies instead.

How early do you think of or plan for Christmas?

This is my first year planning ahead.. most of the time I make  start in October then it's mayhem the first week of December to get everything done.

I know that I have a limited amout of time to accomplish alot so wish me luck!  I'm going to knit scarves for a few friends, and I have some Christmas fabric that I plan to sew into Christmas placemats and runners.  One of my friends gave me an awesome gift a few Christmases ago.. it was some of her homemade bath and body products as well as an auction lot of vintage craft patterns.  I was going through them the other day and I saw one for Huck Weaving, and after looking it up on the web it looks pretty easy to learn so she is going to be getting a towel that I will have decorated using the huck fabric that was included in the gift she gave me.

I'm adding a couple of people to my gift list this year too.  One is someone who has been one of my closest friends for over twenty five years and she and I never did the present thing but she's going through a rough patch right now with her family and her own health so I am going to make her a purple scarf.  Like me her favourite colour is purple and I can see her enjoying the scarf I plan to make.  The other is an aquaintance.. we met via a mutual friend and she's also going through a rough patch so I want to do something for her as well.

I have an hour commute each day to and from work so I can use that time to get some knitting done and every other sewing project I do from now until it's done is going to be a Christmas craft.

Baking starts on November 25th and I think I may put some of my own home canned goods into gift baskets this year too.

OK ... where am I going?.. and WHY am I in this handbasket??

I like your style. I pretty much start thinking about Christmas all over again on Dec26th. Yes I am THAT guy. I also still can't fall asleep on Christmas Eve because of my supercharged excitement for the day to follow.

I actually started singing a Christmas carol the other day at work and one of the cooks whips around and is all "Are you singing a f***ing Christmas song?!"

I love Christmas and all things Christmas.  My daughter and I went to Ottawa Street yesterday and one of the stores there has its entire second floor devoted to Christmas all year round.  I suggested we go in but she wasn't interested...she was much more interested in going to Fabricland so she could get fabric to make an apron.

Funny you should mention Christmas carols.. the KM, myself and one of the line cooks were singing carols on Saturday at work.. yes we were bored..lol, but it was fun!  Some people thought we were crazy, but whatever...

I have a hard time falling asleep on Christmas Eve too.  We have a tradition in our family.. the presents do not go under the tree until Christmas eve.  Now that the kids are older they help us put the presents out and then we change into our new jammies ( we do the new pj's on Christmas eve thing)  and watch the original "It's a Wonderful Life" with James Stewart before we go to bed.

sounds like a great tradition!

I love Christmas and do many holiday events in the days leading up to Christmas ... one of my favorites is visiting a re-enactment of an old school Christmas village near Detroit! It is a blast! People are dressed up like the olden days, campfires, horse carriage rides, roasted chestnuts, hot cocoa, etc. ... definitely a great time! In my family, we watch Christmas Vacation and The Ref every Christmas Eve! Can't wait for the holidays!!
