Looking for a good Butcher Shop and Produce store in Chicago

I just moved to Chicago last week and am looking for a Good butcher shop,  fish monger and a place to buy good produce. I have found some info on a few farmers markets but there only open at inopportune times. I will use them when i can, but in the mean time I am already growing tired of buying meat and fish at the chain stores. If anyone can make a suggestion it would be much appreciated. I am in the Humboldt Park/ Wicker Park area.

Out of curiousity, which shops did you find? I'm around the area too.

Lincoln Park Green Market is exceptional.....2x a week, growers from all over the area....lots of farmstead cheeses & produce, I don't remember any meat guys specifically but assume they'd be there.

Love the Green Market. Good cheeses and this one stand there, I can't remember the name of the vendor, but they make these cider smoothies, no additives. You choose what fruit you want in there, then they add they're apple cider. Delicious. The market on Rush is pretty decent too.

I haven't had a chance to check them out yet, but a posted the same question on Michael Ruhlman's blog and someone suggested these two places:

Gepperth's Market @ 1964 N. Halstead

and

Paulina Market @ 3501 N. Lincoln,

Plus I found a great little Co-Op market called the Dill Pickle at 3039 W. Fullerton. I did check this place out and they have an awesome selection of bulk items, (beans, rice nuts etc), great seasonal produce, local milk and the usual organic canned goods. They have some local meat too. I haven't bought anything yet but I will be doing some of my grocery shopping there next time.

I still need to find a good place for fish though, Whole Foods is a joke, that place is so expensive for the same crap everyone else sells.

I know it's far away, but Hyde Park Produce at 53d & Kimbark blew me away when I visited a few months ago. I almost cried: I spent 12 d**n years in Hyde Park, and that place was just a decent hole-in-the-wall, but as soon as I left they took over the really cr**py grocery store nearby and set up a fabulous place with incredible prices. If you're in the area, pop in, buy something, and give someone who works there a kiss for me.

   Hi there :)

I'm not sure what would be closest to which neighborhood.  But there are a good number of butcher shops to choose from.  I would suggest visiting some of the regional boards and both search and ask questions over there as well.  Some good regional boards are ChowHound Chicago and The LTH Forum.

  Have fun!
