Spam alerts.....

Got another spam in the "Professional Chef''s" forum.....

Same story, new poster, first post, and it's spam.

Is there any way we can get all new members to only add to threads for 5-10 posts before starting thier own new thread?

Right now the best thing to do is click the red flag icon at the bottom of the post. This places the problematic post in a moderation queue. The first few of a new user's posts should all end up in that queue by default but a user flagged post shows up with extra emphasis.

Even limiting a new user to only followup posts doesn't stop them posting spam. And many new users have a specific question that is their primary reason for being here.

Tough to strike the right balance as abuses are always possible

Fair enough, I'll click on the red flag next time.

I've seen other forums where the first x posts are moderated, this prevent spam form appearing until they have more than x posts, and most spammers won't take the time to do that, and are probably bots anyway.

I've seen it too. It has pros and cons as do all systems.

Our old system used to moderate the first 15 posts and our spam was almost none. The new system is still evolving so hopefully a moderation feature will get created.
