This is from a somewhat shaky memory, but I think laowai roughly translates as tourist or visitor. So it isn't a reference to a specific regional cuisine, like hunan, but more like stuff that non-chinese people like.

LOL. I get the feeling I know what she's saying, maybe. These are very popular dishes that people other than native Chinese people would order in a restaurant. What we would think and accept as Chinese food. I never saw anything even close to those dishes when I was in China. Or, maybe I'm wrong.
