Need opinions on cake/cupcake

I'm baking a cake and cupcakes for a baby shower and I have the mom's favorite flavors. I've decided to do a white chocolate cupcake w/ ghirardelli white chocolate frosting. The filling is the difficult part. I want to do a fruit in order to cut the sweetness, but her favorite fruits are canteloupes, red apples (fiji, pink ladies, gala, etc, but not green apple) and grapes. What fruit and what style does everyone recommend? I was thinking cinnamon apples, but does that fit? Any opinion is definately appreciated.

Maybe you're trying to do too many things in one.

I would  either get some really nice grapes, and put them on top of the frosting, or make two kinds of cupcakes, an applesauce cake type cupcake (applesauce in the batter with spices and raisins with maybe a cream cheese frosting) and white chocolate ones.

Personally, i think the whiteness of white chocolate cake and frosting is nice and pleasant as it is, and putting a filling inside takes away from the very delicate taste and texture of the white chocolate.  Especially cinnamon would be overpowering, and at that point, you might as well just make them cinnamon, because you you won;t taste anythning else.

Also the nice quality of cakes made with white chocolate comes from their texture which is soft and creamy - a cupcake is small, and if you fill it with something, you really don;t have enough crumb to appreciate and enjoy the creaminess of the crumb.

Making two kinds is also better for the guests, who may like one and not the other.

the filling wont be used on the cupcakes....forgot to mention that...it'll be used in the cake. I have a small 3 layer 6 inch cake and I'm making cupcakes as well. The cupcakes wont have the filling.

You may want to ask her about some other fruits as well because none of the ones you mentioned sound appealing paired with your cake.  Personally I think a lemon curd would work well but that's because I like lemon curd.  You can't do anything with canteloupes in the winter.

It would definitely not be what a friend would do

How about making an applesauce cake.  It's nice and moist and very good.

I don't know where you live, but in the south an apple stack cake would be perfectly suitable for a baby shower - even traditional,
