Best Wine for Poaching Pears, Frangipane

I'm going to make a Frangipane and am wondering what would be the best wine to poach pears in.  I'm thinking I'm going to throw in some Star Anise and Vanilla Bean, should I go for a white or a red?

Hi PieBird13,

I do one but I use fortified wine, so a good port and a drizzle of maple syrup...yummmmm

I love my job

Riesling is also very nice, especially if you throw in a splash of sherry too
