Applied for a job today...

After much thought I know I need to leave my present place but I do not want to make a lateral move..I want the move hopefully to be for the better.  I will never be KM at my current place and that is my choice.  The main owner is just too oblivious when it comes to running a restaurant and well he is about as bad as what Ramsay sees on Kitchen NIghtmares.  I will happily be the AKM for him but there is no way on this green earth I will ever accept a KM role there.

I am ready to take on the challenge of being the KM so I am on the job hunt... I finally found my feet and I know I can do this.. I run the ktichen on the KM's days off and in his absence and heck I even will expo at the FOH if it means getting the food out in good order.  So.. I was browsing online today and applied for KM at an Irish Pub... not sure if I will even get a call back but heck I applied!!  It is in TO so there is a commute but it is in the same complex as hubby's studio.

The time has come for me to go and I see it... it's cutting the strings that is the hardest .....

OK ... where am I going?.. and WHY am I in this handbasket??

Good luck! I know the feeling of leaving a job behind but trust me, it is for the better to do so. As a mentor once told me and I live by everyday..."the doors will open and close with or without you, me and everyone else". In other words, if you have an opportunity you think is better for you and your future, take it and leave the world behind.

a very trusted friend of mine once said, "When you think you are ready to be the head chef, it is probably time to be one. If you aren't ready, you will find out in a hurry, and either pick it up quick, or go back to working for someone else knowing that they probably did know better all along." Good luck.

Aric I agree and I will find out very quickly if it is meant to be.  So far I haven't heard from the pub but seeing as it is in Toronto and I am looking at a commute, It wouldn't surprise me if they said no thanks based on geography.  I have done that when looking at applicants, espeically when I know that it is for a position where the pay does not justify the commute for the person.

I'm pretty sure you would have, Bill and most definitely if I had made it to the day I woke up an hour after my start time my butt would have been handed to me on a platter.

Do you mean the Mouse as in Mickey?  If so I hope you guys have a great time.  We did Disney when the kids were 13 and 11 and for us it was perfect!

Kids are good... Max will be 18 at the end of next month and Mal will be 16 in the middle of June so two big birthdays here.  We're thinking about a trip to NYC at the end of the summer but we're kind of on the fence... the kids want to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular so maybe we'll wait and go in late November... who knows?  LOL

So far I've heard nothing and seen nothing else that I am interested in applying but time will tell...

I haven't heard anything back from the pub and I don't really expect to seeing as it is been a week already...

I did apply at a place that is literally a ten minute walk from my house but I'm going to see what goes with that.  Back when I was working nights at the hospital I did apply at this place and the Chef was interested in hiring me but didn't seem to want to find the time to sit down with  me for an interview.  That was when he was looking for a cook.  Now he has opened a second location and is looking for a KM and line cooks for the location that is so close to me.  So we'll see what comes with that... I am a much stronger cook now than I was when I first applied to work for him so I guess time will tell...
