Interview Wednesday

I just checked my email and I have an interview on Wednesday.  It's at a pizza place/sports bar and they're looking for a cook.  I'm not sure what to think about it as I've never heard of the place even though it's been in Hamilton since before I was born.  So while I'm not going to stop looking, it's a good sign that I won't be unemployed for long.

Awesome. Hey making money is nice right? :)

One thing i always told my self before i landed a job that i enjoy is you learn something from every job even if its a bar and grill to a pizza joint like your talking,

I dont know what type of kitchens youve worked in before but think of it this way, No matter where you go y'll find people that love to eat pizza and learning to create different types of pizza would be a experience worth your wild.

Like my self i work two jobs, During the day I am a Lead Cook over a mom and paps joint and at night i cook on the line @ the biggest local country club we have around. I don't take anything for granted being only 25 I have ALOT to learn and If i go a day without learning something i just wasted it!

Thanks.   I also have an interview pending at a local shelter if the HR person and I can finally connect and stop playing phone tag!  The pizza place has been around since 1966 and it started out as a little mom and pop place and it's grown from there.   I'll see what it's like on Wednesday and take it from there.

I've worked in a few different places and the shortest time I was ever at a place (excluding the job I just left)  was eleven months.  It was a workplace cafeteria and I quit.  The chef was a nice person but difficult to work with and on top of all that, my sitter got a "real" job so instead of looking for a new sitter etc I looked at our finances and quit.  Quitting that job was a good thing because my next one after that was the cafe and my hours were the same as school hours so it was a perfect fit as I could send the kids to school in the  morning, work my shift and be home when they got home from school.  Both owners were fine to be on their own for first hour of the day and as long as I had my area cleaned and stocked for the next day.

Sounds like a fun job their at the cafe. I have not been so fortunate to find a job that allows me to be home with family that much, Soon ill be head chef and make my own hours. With me settings goals and working hard toward them Anything is possible ( this what my father says :) )

Good luck WED on that job. Hope you enjoy it!

It was alot of fun at the cafe.  Sadly the owners sold it and it was not the same.  Had my kids been just a bit older at the time I'd have bought it but they were too young for me to be able to make that kind of commitment.  I miss that little place.

I have my references ready and I'll see how things go tomorrow.  If it isn't something I'm comfortable with I will know pretty early into the interview.  I'm interviewing them as much as they are interviewing me.  I have one on Friday too..

It went OK but I don't think I want to work there.  I'm not too crazy about the area it's in and there was just something about the place that didn't sit well with me.

I have another one tomorrow at what I am calling a soup kitchen but it's a drop-in meal program for homeless and at risk people.

The soup kitchen interview went well and I had a cooking tryout today at a downtown cafe.   I think the tryout went OK.. the other cook there seems to be a good guy and he had nothing but praise for the owners.  It was a much different feel than the diner and while I didn't do eggs, I did do the meats and potatoes for breakfast and save for one batch of overcooked potatoes and forgetting that it is three pieces of breakfast meat on a plate I think it went ok.  They have other people going in for trials so I'll see what comes from it.

Awesome.. I really enjoy cooking breakfast I cooked for around 6 months for a local mom pops restaurant that is known for the breakfast so really busy during mornings unlike most places. I learned alot about doing things on the fly. If you have any questions let me know! From egg Benedict to omelet's! I'm sure you got it down though :)
