I am thinking about going to CIA Hyde Park and I had a few questions.

Hows the social life in CIA Hyde Park?

Will I have time in the afternoon to get a job as a cook or dishwasher or prep cook?

Is there anything I can do to increase my chances of getting a job as a cook in a hotel or restaurant after I finish culinary school?

I plan to find a job at the beginning of my senior year of high school.

Any thoughts?

I used to live around there, and I just wanted to say that the whole Hudson Valley area around the school is quite beautiful, from the Hudson River itself to the Vanderbilt Mansion and one of the homes of FDR. It's also not too far from NYC, but perhaps you know all of this already?

Hopefully, someone else will be able to address questions more specifically.

Hi Joey,

I actually recently started at the CIA in Hyde Park back in February. I absolutely love the area, as well as the people and of course the chefs. The social life in the area is all in what you make it, NYC is around 1:45 away and there are plenty of things to do in the immediate area if you are an outdoors person. The school also has all kinds of different activities almost every week, things such as white water rafting and kayaking are a few of my favorites.They also sell discounted movie tickets for theaters in the area. As far as work and class goes be prepared to work, as long as you have a good work ethic I'd say that you will do just fine. I personally have a pm class schedule as well as a job on campus at the bakery/ cafe. Its a busy schedule, but if you don't mind 14+ hours in the kitchen then a job and class are no problem.
