Most Dissapointing Restaurant Experience

We took guests from the UK to our favorite "Grand Maitre d' Chef's" new restaurant. I ordered Sole in a Truffle Buerre Blanc. When my dinner arrived, I gagged from the fragrance from the plate. My favorite French Chef haf used Not fresh Truffle but 'truffle' Oil.
Not wanting to make a scene I asked it be removed, feigning sudden illness. I emailed the restaurant the next day expressing my shock at this most egregious culinary sin. I phrased the email much more mildly. I haven't had a reply and really don't expect one.
It's makes me sad. frown.gif

Hmm, curious to know the menu description of the dish.

Truffle oil is not nearly as volatile as fresh truffles.

The description was just
"Sole over ?? With a Truffle Buerrre Blanc"
I asked, I thought rhetorically, fresh truffles? I was told yes.

I have eaten truffles often both in restaurants US and France and I cook with them when I can get fresh. They are very mild in aroma until just under your nose.

I expected just a shaving, nothing grand. This was truley so called truffle oil.

eh...no.  White truffles are almost obscene in smell explosion.  I've worked at places where the waiter shaves a bit of white truffle on a plate and the whole dining room smells.

Not much of a menu description.  Possibly "DOVER" sole?  If the sauce had shaved truffle on top, the menu would have/should have said so.  But a beurre blanc with truffle oil is still a truffle beurre blanc.

How did service staff respond when you siad the sauce did not have any fresh truffle in it?

The service staff were great! Gracious, offered another entree. My only exception is to the truffle oil which is NOT truffle, it is dithiapentane and oil. I'm curious as to how you justify a fine Chef using it. The service woman said it might have a bit of TO in it.
Other than my order dinner was great. A fine restaurant.
