Wash whites with whites only and do not use bleach - instead use oxy clean.  Put the oxy clean and soap in the washer - use warm water - fill the machine and let the agitator start.  Now put in your whites and agitate for another minute.  Stop machine - let sit for 15 minutes and then restart and finish load.

Bleach will eventually yellow your whites.  We stopped using bleach about 1999 so that is  some 14 years ago.

After two(2) washes I wash everything together; red, blue, green, black, white coats and all sorts of pants.  Always in cold.  They always come out clean.   I've never been in a kitchen where anyone checks or grades coats on any kinda scale other than clean or dirty.

I will add though, that Oxy-Clean is a nice product.

I've been washing my pants with my coats without any problems, however, I can't seem to get some of the grease stains out of my coat.  I've used the oxy-clean gel stick on them, I've tried soaked them in oxy clean powder for hours and also dish detergent but nothing has been working.  Pretty frustrating.  Was going to try bleach but afraid it will turn my jackets yellow
