How long will food last?

I'm in boarding school, and the food is horrible, so up until now, I've been bringing canned soup that I brought over from America, but I'm running out, and I still have a month to go :o I'm planning on buying some containers and bringing food I make over the weekend as food for the week. I'm facing the problem of not knowing how long food will last, so I don't know what kind of food I need to bring, because I need to make sure it doesn't expire within a week. What kind of food would that be?

PS. I have no way of heating it up except for a microwave.

Thanks,

Any UK boarding school that allows freshly prepared food in a tuck box is WAAAAY different to the one I attended, or the ones my children attended.

Some of your questions appear off the wall.

You need refrigeration for most prepared products to keep. Do you have access to that?

I should be able to have access to a fridge, not a freezer though.

And yes, it is a pretty different school. I'm sure it's not actually accepted, but our Housemaster is nice, so I got lucky. Some houses have kitchens though.
