I was wondering if anyone has been to Masaharu Morimoto's new restauraunt in Philidilphia or has heard anything about it. I was watching a special on Foodtv last night about it and it looks really good.

I visited their site

The restaurant looks really cool. Kinda reminds me a little of Webster Hall with all those neon lights.

Here's the link to Morimoto Restaurant . Check out the pics!

I have reservations in 3 weeks!! Can't wait. By the way... the Food Network is re-running the special on Morimoto's on Saturday (April 13th) @ 4pm EST.

I feel so excited for you Jim, please post your thoughts and review of Morimoto. From what Food Network showed of it, it looks like a wonderfull place to eat. And I've always been a fan of his from Iron Chef.

Fascinating web site, intriguing menus. I will await your descriptions, so please be thorough! My teacher's salary would get me a bowl of his chicken soup, and not much else....

I went to Morimoto shortly after it opened, and have a mixed opinion of it. The appetizers were pretty good, though my main course was really, really fantastic - miso-marinated black cod - which was originally a specialty at Nobu's, I think. Unfortunately, desserts were seriously lacking - the chocolate fig cake tasted disturbingly like cake mix and my sister's "chocolate wave" was basically a big tuile with a little scoop of chocolate ice cream and some sort of garnish involving kiwi - flavors that didn't really seem to match to me... The restaurant seemed a little over-designed to my taste, at the expense of function (seems to be a trend with a lot of new philly restaurants...): for example, the booth tables were so long that I, sitting on the inside, had to continually hand my plates over to the waitress because she couldn't reach them (oh, and yes, the seats are illuminated and they even change color!). I kind of got the feeling that we were paying more for the decor rather than for the food... Maybe the kitchen's settled in now that the restaurant's been open for a while?
but, it was definitely an experience, though - Hope you have a good time!
