Coconut oil is one of the least expensive oils to produce and is used extensively in the third world.
Why does a pint of it cost $7 when you can buy a gallon of peanut oil for $10?

Maybe it depends on where you are shopping. You can buy coconut oil pretty darn cheap at an Indian food store if there is one in your city. If you buy refined coconut oil in a health food store, though, then it will cost $7 or more. And then there's the "virgin coconut oil". OMG, so pricey. What a racket!
