Hello from snowy British Columbia,

I'm a restaurant owner who's somewhat out of his depthbut having fun and learning lots! I'm reliant on good people, and am keen to expand my knowledge of the industry so I figured this forum might help. 10 years ago I started a travel company bringing skiers and snowboarders to Canada. Then in 2008 we started a restaurant to cater for our winter guests and so I found myself in the catering industry as well. As you can imagine it's been a roller coaster ride and a very steep learning curve with plenty of emotional moments. But we've had some great times and our clients have been happy.

P.S. Do you have many people from Canada using the forum or is it mainly for those in the States?

Welcome to Cheftalk!

 

Our membership is from around the globe (I'm Scots, for instance), but the site is owned by Americans and most of the members are from the USA.  We do have a number of Canadian members too - chefs and amateurs!  The skills level of members is also broad, from those just starting out, through ethusiastic amateurs (I'm one of that band) to master chefs.

 

Feel free to join in on any thread you find interesting, or start your own in the relevant forum.  There are three professional fora as well as one for culinary students.  The wikis, blogs, articles, reviews and photography are all well worth spending time to view - a source of much inspiration for members.

I just joined from Port Moody (near Vancouver) so yes Canadians use this forum.

Firstly, though I am a native Manhattaner, my Swiss mom had immigrated to Vancouver City, and my Italian dad to N.Y.C., thus I have had a close bond growing up with both of these cities. I am now working as a Food, Wine and Travel Editor for the oldest English language print magazine in Spain which caters to American and Canadian and British expats. Prior I have lived in Italia.

 

So, it is good to have a restaurateur on our threads. Do see my article on a Hotel with lovely restaurant in Vancouver, and I believe it is in the Restaurant Dining Section ...
