I just wanted to share something, it is not a big event for me but for my nephew it was.
He wanted to try and see if he could meet Chuck Hughes at his restaurant. It takes forever to get a reservation sometimes. Last week I brought him to the Old Port of Montreal with the hopes of just walking in and getting a seat.
Sure enough they took us right away. I ordered a ceasar and they served it up the tallest glass you could think of and stuck a crab claw in it and a celery stalk with all the utensils hanging off the handle to open your crab...well he just thought that was the greatest thing.
To see the expressions on a child's face , to watch him light up......well there is no price for that.
He ordered the famous lobster poutine and he really enjoyed it. Then we ordered turkey wings as an app, and bruschetta which was out of this world. ( Can you imagine that they had a lentil sauce garnishing the dish....at first I thought < No, can't be> but when I tried it .....well bells went off.
Then we shared a seafood risotto and a scallop dish.....wonderful.
Of course watching him eat their famous deep fried Mars bar and ice cream (sorry the pun) ....took the cake. !
My complaint about the place ? It is so dark in there that you can't even see the menu on the wall. I had to put the candle light in front of my nephew just to see his face. A couple of times I had to ask " Are you there" ? (no ...just joking but you get the picture)
Here is the son I wish I had in the kitchen with the crew, they had him hopping and laughing. Busy as they were, they did me the honor of giving him a fabulous night. I just wanted to share.
ps. Chuck was in New York that night but he is usually there, great guy. They tape the TV show right there in the kitchen.
