What can I do with these ingredients?

Thread Starter

I've got some random things lying around in my fridge and I really want to go cook, but I'm not sure what I could do with any of them.

I've got a couple whole red chilli's, 2 pointed red peppers, cherry tomatoes, a block of cheddar, a ton of herbs and spices and flour.

Is there anything I can do with these? Can I turn them into some kind of a hot sauce with a bit of stock and cream?

The other thing is the chilli's, peppers and tomatoes are past their use by/best before date, are they still usable ?

Appreciate any help :)

thanks

How about a pizza? Looks like you got all the ingredients there.

Or a pasta sauce?

Cheddar and herb biscuits and a tomato pepper chutney?

An omelet?

A form of chili rellenos comes immediately to mind.

Another thought strikes me, though: Do you really have those ingredients laying around? Or is this a school assignment?

Twelve to seven says they are. Use-by dates are conservative at best. But, more to the point, if you're going to be a professional in the food service industry you need to learn how to tell when produce is good by its look, feel, and smell.

Take those peppers. Are the firm to the touch. Skins bright, with no wrinkles, rotty spots, etc.? That's how they are at their prime. If they're past that it still doesn't mean they are unusable. But there are different levels of past-prime, and a long way before being unusable.

Fresh pasta comes to mind.... with a spicy tomato sauce. Save the cheddar for crackers!

I wonder if it's a school assignment too. When I was in school the chef's would throw us curve balls sometimes. Kinda

like an Iron Chef thing. Here's what you can use..... Now GO!!! The clock is running and you'll be deducted points for every

minute you go over. Really kinda fun. Makes you think on your toes.

Good luck!!!

It´s a bit decadent, but I would say fried cheddar in tempura style batter and spicy and sour tomato salsa...
