I haven't had the title of chef for very long, still less than a year. Much of the time since my promotion, I was short-staffed and consumed by all of the work.
So there are still moments when something little happens to surprise me into the realization that I did it. After all of the hard work, I finally got my name on my jacket. Just today I was doing random searches online to look at plating trends when - surprise! - there was a photo of one of my desserts. As corny as it sounds, that gave me a little thrill.
I am wondering what experiences my fellow chefs have had. Has anything happened recently to give you that little thrill of being a chef? Something that knocks you momentarily from your daily routine? Or do you remember one of the first times you really felt like a chef?
And please don't go all cynical - this is meant to be a happy post.
