I am in dire need of advice!

Hello there,

My question is:

What can one do at such a young age to make sure the Culinary Arts is a career worth looking into?  I want to make sure that this is a career I want to take seriously before I apply to colleges. (I am a sophomore in high school)

Also, for anyone who found out they had a passion for food at a young age, how did you find the motivation to pursue your dream career? How do you find motivation and creativity while cooking at home?

I am from NYC and I participated in a culinary program this past summer at UPENN for 3 weeks and will participate in a culinary internship for this coming summer at Chicago for 4 weeks. So I have had some experience with food. I am just doubtful that it isn't enough for me to make a solid decision.

Your recommendations and opinions are greatly appreciated!! =)

Haha I felt the same way when I made the decision to pursue what I really wanted to do.  I remember taking a tour of the (culinary school I ended up graduating from 4 years later) my freshman year of high school.  just know that your gunna have to love food enough to be a part time janitor in the kitchen theres lots of cleaning to do and lots of long hours but its great =)

In my mind, the culinary world is a trade, not a profession.

There is nothing wrong with pursuing a trade and long as you recognize and understand that it is not a profession.
