I had a bad tooth pulled and was given antibiotics for the infection; didn't work so I bought a bottle of minced garlic in it's juice, and took a table spoon twice a day for two weeks.
It worked.
A year later my cat had a bad infection from a fight. Thought I'd try Garlic, and it also worked wonders after giving my cat a small teaspoon a day for a week.
my grandpa used to talk about the curing power of bacon, but take that advice with a grain of salt , for many years he believed he was eleanor roosevelt, i remember as a kid having to watch as my farther dragged him out of the gynecologists office while he was screaming "unhand me im the presidents wife"

And was he? The bacon theory seems legit when compared with the Eleanor Roosevelt part.
Anyway, garlic is superb. I had flu few weeks ago and I was fit in a few days without taking any medicine, well except a lot of garlic and two cups of a fresh ginger tea a day. I think that the healing power of ginger is even greater than of garlic.
I had a flu recently and was fit in a couple of days and didn't take anything.
We seem to forget that most things go away on their own!
But, yes, garlic seems to have an antibiotic effect - kills bacteria somewhat. same with onion. My question greenmotion, is how many days did you take the antibiotic?
It could be something having to do with the disulfide bond harbored by garlic. Also get yourselves a copy of the book entitled THE SCIENTIFIC VALIDATION OF HERBAL MEDICINE. It's a worthwhile read, listing around four or five major herbs used in treating some common illnesses. I used it as one of my reference texts when I taught health science some years ago.
FWIW I swear by the use of L-Lysine in combating fever blisters. Always worked for me for almost thirty years.
Purely anecdotal - my father suffered a heart attack a couple of years ago. He recovered well, but the angiogram showed major blockage in his coronary arteries. They had him already scheduled for placing some stents, but after he switched to a high garlic diet, the blockage was reduced after three months, so far, that they cancelled the surgery. I do hold a PhD in biochemistry, but, to be honest, I don't have good scientific evidence at the moment. I shall visit the local university library soon to dig up some papers regarding garlic.
Cats cure by themselves in most cases very quickly, especially on an open wound. I can tell you that you should never give a cat either garlic or onion internally as it could really hurt them. For an open wound clean the wound and surrounding area with peroxide then use an antibiotic cream
I can believe that garlic is wonderful for the health but I can't imagine how you could drink it?? Seems so disgusting, isn't it? And how do you do to collect only the juice?
I have recently started eating a lot of raw garlic(korean girlfriend). Never had this problem. Are you sure it was the garlic?
