Haystack Potatoes? French Name and recipe?

Hi there, please bare with me for asking such a simple question of this forum  but I have tried for days now to recall the name of a cooked potatoe style we used often when I originally trained as a Chef in the late 1960s, It was basically mashed potatoe piped and egg washed into a haystack form, if anyone can impart the Pomme appropriate name and even supply a recipe I would be most grateful to you all:-)
