tramontia?

does anyone own any tramontia tri-ply cookware? their prices seem pretty reasonable, but i was wondering does that sacrifice any quality?

Not that I've found in my 12" skillet.  They do tend to run heavier and with a bit more thermal mass than the Calphalon clad ware I also have.

 

Reviews of clad Tramontina usually rate it quite highly, including Cooks Illustrated.

I have the 12" frying pan (saute, as they call it) and I don't think you can do any better for twice to three times the price. It performs extremely well. My girlfriend, who is an amazing cook, has an All Clad the same size and she says that mine has a slightly greater tendency to stick when making frittatas. I think the surface just needed scrubbing to bring it back to normal. I like the handles better than AC and otherwise they're pretty much identical. Wallyworld has the 10 piece set on 'rollback' right now and even though my pan will be duplicated, I think I'm going to grab a set to get the sauce pans, stockpot, and dutch oven--which is actually more like a 5 qt. stock/sauce pot. To me a dutch oven is cast iron. I have the Tramontina 6.5 qt. cast, enameled dutch oven and it's also excellent. If you want quality but can't bring yourself to lay out the bucks for All Clad and Le Creuset, and if you can stand cooking with no-name stuff, Tramontina is a compromise that's not much of a compromise.

If you are a Costco member the warehouse has had Tramontia sets at a killer price on and off over the past few years. I've never used it myself but I've made wedding gifts out of the sets at Costco a few times. That may be worth looking into as the quality seemed very nice especially considering the price point.

I have a whole collection of Tramontina tri play pots and pans (Brazil is close) included a big pasta cooker. Good stuff. Indestructible if proper cared. Not comparable to copper quality of course, but good enough.

Heh heh, sapphire gemstones? I might need more than a couple of glowing online reviews... reminds me of the song 'Diamonds On The Soles of Her Shoes.'

 

I've been on the verge of buying something. Was ready to go for the 10 piece set of Tramontina and couldn't do it. I want Tribute and am not going to be happy otherwise. Just wish I could find a deal somewhere. Online retailers gouge on the extras. 4 lids and shipping cost about as much as a 10 pc set of Tramontina. Six pieces with four lids is almost $700 delivered.
