Hello from Chicago

I've been sort of lurking here for the past couple of months, lapping up all of the generously shared expertise and finally decided to join. I've been cooking for myself and friends for over 30 years but only recently started eating and cooking meat, so I'm sure I will have plenty of questions about that. I live in a very ethnically diverse part of Chicago and can probably put my hands on just about any ingredient you could name within 10 or 12 blocks of my apartment. It's a constant inspiration to just wander through the markets in the various neighborhoods near me. Although we have some of the best restaurants in the country and a red hot culinary scene here, I know very little about it--not in my budget, unfortunately, but I can tell you about a lot of the hole in the wall, mom and pop ethnic joints on the far north side! I look forward to getting to know the site and the people here.

Aloha and Welcome to Chef Talk Terry!  I'm like you , I lurked for the longest time until I just had to participate.  I have learned so much as a Home Cook, like you; one note on that by the way, the Pro-forums are read only for us, but I think it's great to be able listen in on the chefs and what they talk about.  I'm sure that you've already checked out the Articles, Reviews and Galleries, not to mention the search bar at the top of the page for past threads.  I want to say how jealous I am that you live in a Food Hot City.  You don't need to go to the fancy restaurants, just being able to duplicate the recipes with the resources around you is fabulous.  Should you have questions, I'm sure you already know that you can PM to one the MODs for help.  Terry, ENJOY!!
