Some Sushi I rolled! Pictures inside of course

Finally was able to roll some Sushi properly!  Almost all my previous attempts failed due to various mistakes on my part, but last night I made multiple rolls with very few faulty pieces.  Some aren't as big as the others mainly because of my knife being so dull, so I hope to improve on them once I sharpen and or get a new knife.  I wish the images did more justice to them, because it seems the camera caused some of the rice to appear not as white, and over saturated some of the colors.

Thanks everybody!

 

It is cooked Salmon and Avocado for the filling.  

I didn't care for the salmon raw as much as I liked it cooked.  LOL

I am a beginner in the world of cooking.  If you have any tips, feel free to send them my way.  Advice is always appreciated.

Very nice photo and I am sure it tasted great (raw salmon- one of the ways I enjoy it). Thank you for sharing.

I love Makizushi, and yeah practice, practice, practice.  That's something I would love to learn hands on if I can get the opportunity in the future but those chefs are so good at it and make it look so easy, deceptively easy.  Each time I make it though, I learn a little more from my past mistakes. 

 

Fwiw, migratory salmon can indeed obtain and transfer tapeworm so that is certainly something to consider if you do ever serve it raw make sure it has gotten the deep freeze (-4 °F for 7 days) or thoroughly inspected :D

Thanks everyone!  I intend to improve in terms of speed and consistency as I practice.  

Here is some more Sushi I rolled tonight.  4 Rolls, or about 24 pieces, and containing Cucumber, Salmon, and Advocado.

I feel I messed up in rolling  it this time, but I think I improved in cutting it.  Still need to sharpen this knife once I get a stone. lol.gif

That looks might-a-ly tasty to me

The eye appeal isn't bad

I've eaten sushi all my life,

but I can't for the life of me make one

(well, only spam musubi, that doesn't count)

I believe I've mentioned this story before.  I remember the best sushi I ever had.  Visited my little sister in Pasadena quite some time ago, took her and the kids to dinner.  They wanted to go to this sushi place.  We get to some strip mall in a dubious part of town, and there between the beauty parlor and the bail bond place is a sushi joint.  I was pretty skeptical until I walked in.  An old Japanese couple, she did the seating, he did the slicing.  Small place, one couple was leaving as we got there, smiles on their faces.  You just got a good feeling about the place.

 

The kids at that time were pretty young, they liked the crab salad and stuff.  I started with his spicy tuna roll - it was THE BEST tuna roll I ever had - rice, seaweed, fish and sauce - why did his taste so much better than any others?  After that I didn't use the menu, I pointed to a piece of fish displayed in the cooler and he'd make me a roll using it.  Wow.

 

I'm sure that the couple has passed on, but it was a very memorable evening, I wish it could be repeated.
