I have a 'child' who will begin culinary school in the fall. High school graduation is in June and we would like to get her a knife set (roll up carrier?). I know it is not wise to go 'top-of-the-line' right now, but we do want to get her something that will last and work properly...any suggestions?

Find the best place around and get in there. If you want to be great you have to study under great people.

Pretty much a canvas roll with room for 7-9 knives would get her started.  I think though the school might have standard issue sets.  Not sure if a rolls or cases normally come with them though.

Not to expensive and make she engrave her name on them. The main rule don't loan your tools out....Best of Luck!
