The 50's were a crucial time in the destruction of women's rights.  It was advertisements like these that encouraged women to stop working after WWII and go back home to tend to the needs of men.  You see, during the war while men where gone women took on roles you wouldn't imagine, anything men had been doing was now being done by women.  When the men came back after the war ended it was time for them to reclaim their jobs and for women to go back into the kitchen and stay at home with the kids.  Advertising served a large role in helping to make this happen.  http://www.businesspundit.com/10-most-sexist-print-ads-from-the-1950s/

Good Post. Thanks for interesting subject matter.

Look at Afghanistani women. Of course, not as drastic, however, the general fact is, there are finally women taking a stand for their education and career training. Caught a BBC TV special and this is very positive. They are learning computers, English and often, nursing and / or other medically related careers. Additionally, tailoring, embrodiering and fashion design, teaching and sciences.
