Butter Cake does not rise

 I make a simple butter cake with the below ingredients:

 

2 cup Self raising flour

250 g butter

1 cup sugar

3/4 cup milk

3 tbsp flaxseed (mixed with 6 tbsp water) as a substitute for egg

 

 

Method

I cream butter and sugar, then add flaxseed paste, add milk and flour alternatively,

pour mixture in the greased pan and bake it for 50 min on 150 degree celsious

 

Cake tastes fine. does not taste uncooked, kniefe also comes clean when inserted in the middle but somehow does not rise much..seems really moist in some parts...

is this a recipe that you used and came out well before and didn't rise well this time?  Or has it never risen well? 

Or is it a variation on a cake that used egg and you substituted flaxseed?

Not all recipes work.  Not all substitutions work. 

I notice the recipe is not vegan because you have butter and milk.  It's not low cholesterol because you have butter and milk.  So i wonder why you're not using eggs.  Are you allergic to them ?  Because eggs are one of the ingredients that make cakes rise, so if you substitute them it would be better to get a better recipe i guess.  .

Yes you are right. I tried to substitute eggs with flaxseed. But I guess this recipe is not meant to have flaxseed.

I will try with eggs now.

I never tried it with the eggs before for this recipe..
