Sharpening 'in kitchen' knives

I'm possibly getting a new job, and the kitchen doesn't allow you to use knives from home. I used a few of their knives on the trial shift I had, that while not being all that blunt, they were nowhere near what I'd call sharp.

Is there any quick, and more importantly good, sharpeners that I could for instance take in my pocket, swipe a knife through half a dozen times and get a good edge on with? I'm not sure if they'd even allow this, but they might. I'm pretty sure they won't let me sharpen the knives properly.

Have you looked at the Edgemaker Pro?  This is a pocket size sharpener that will do just what you want.  Granted, the results will not be as good as an hour on the waterstone, but it should be an improvement.
