Thai food ingredients in Manchester

i want ot cook Thai Green curry. is there anywhere in Mancheter where i can get fresh ingrediants, to make the paste

 

20 bird's eye chillies
1 tbsp chopped galangal
3 tbsp chopped lemongrass
1 tsp makrut (aka kaffir) lime zest, or 2 tsp finely minced makrut lime leaves
1 tsp chopped coriander root, or 10 tsp pounded coriander stems
1 tsp chopped red turmeric
2 tbsp chopped shallots
2 tbsp chopped garlic
1 tsp shrimp paste

failing that, whta it is the best curry paste to buy?

If you have a good Asian market in Manchester you should be able to find most of the ingredients there.

 

If you can't find what you need, I would look for Mae Ploy brand curry pastes from Thailand. They come in little cans or in larger, plastic tubs. There are probably a dozen varieties. I've used several of them and always been satisfied. They make a really quick meal, once you've chopped the vegetables and protein.  Again, you will probably need to find an Asian market.

 

Which Manchester are we talking about, by the way?

thanks for the reply.  i meant Manchester, England.  Didn't realise, but i guess this is a US based forum.

i will have a look for those pastes, maybe they are available here

you should be able to find most ingredients in the UK.

If you can't find them in the shops (like the indian shops or tesco, sainsbury etc) then try online.

Amazon.co.uk definitely has some of them.

You might do better at a Chinese market. At least here in the US the Chinese markets are more likely to have S.E. Asian ingredients than the Indian markets are. A quick Google search of "Asian Grocers in Manchester UK" turns up several. If you have a Thai restaurant you like in the area, I'd ask them where to shop, too. 

 

 

Or, better still--a Google search of "thai grocer in Manchester UK" turns up Kim's Thai Food Store at 46 George Street, in Chinatown.
