Oven Times!

Thread Starter

Okay, so I'm 19 and just learning to cook, make cup cakes, brownies, bread etc. And i don't know if the oven we have is rubbish in general, or I'm not doing it right.

I've followed the brownie recipe but the centre still hasn't set after almost 50 minutes in the oven, on the required gas mark, i think it will dip in the middle :/ any advice?

Welcome to Cheftalk Coraleva,

Would it be possible to know the recipe you are working with and the directions it came with  ?

one advice is maybe ur recipe is "unbalanced"/ measurement error
another is maybe ur baking dish is too deep?

You could get yourself an oven thermometer.  They;re not too expensive.  Then you can see if the oven is at the right temperature.  Also you need to turn it on a half hour before starting so it will heat up evenly.

"Siduri said, 'Gilgamesh, where are you roaming? You will never find the eternal life that you seek...Savour your food, make each of your days a delight, ... let music and dancing fill your house, love the child who holds you by the hand and give your wife pleasure in your embrace.'"

What they said.

Just FYI...

You may already know this but may be helpful for someone else.

Chocolate is a sometimes difficult ingredient to work with as it scorches easily.

In the future, stick to suggested bake time.

Brownies are supposed to be kinda fudgy and will tighten when cool.

If not, just scoop out the center and place in a bowl, grap a spoon and enjoy the treat!

Hi, if you are suspecting that the oven is the problem why you get unsatisfactory results, I suggest you'd buy oven thermometer to check if you are baking at the right temperature. I hope this helps. :)
