Soesje from Netherlands

Thread Starter

Hi :)  great to have found this forum.

I am a 46 years old female who has had a life long passion for good food, local products and ecogastronomy.

Developed myself at home by learning some basics and passion only grew, with some specialities.

Then rolled into a volunteer job, where I am a line cook "only" ;) meaning doing the prep work and lately bake bread, do the desserts on my own.

At our place (not even a restaurant) we cook for low income people, offering them three course meals for just 6 euros (and for some for even less).

During my life, I have wanted to become a chef, no matter what, thought it was a job that suited me but got put off by life itself......and here I am.

Now finally I get sent to culinary school, which in netherlands is I think, different than USA in some ways.

We have the possibility to do a one year turbo training to become a basic chef, meaning that 1 day week we have to go to school, other days work. Currently looking for a learningjob (meaning the one that hires me needs to have papers for teaching students at work), but my current volunteer job chef is so happy with me he wants to get his papers (renew them) again so that at least I can do some of the assignments there.

Jobs as a student chef are currently scarce over here where I live, so have to take anything I can get :)

Can't wait, and would love to connect with people over the world and discuss anything food related.....

So, I encourage anyone thinking they are "too old" and throw themselves into it, too!

Feel free to contact me privately.
