Looking for a culinary school. I need help.

I'm trying to help my son find a culinary school.  I'd prefer an actual brick and mortar, but I'm having little luck.  I'm thinking of letting him take an online course.  He is a special needs kid.  He learns through repitition.  I teach school for a living so I can help him get through the material.  The ultimate goal is for him to gain baking skills and learning to cook things like soups.  We are hopeful of opening our own little place within a year or two.  Any thoughts?

Forget school.

Just find him a place where he can practice and succeed.

Baking skills are great if opening your own place but 95% of the time an employee is simply doing what the owner says to do.  (ie. you are using the owners skills)

This means that your son doesn't have special needs he simply doesn't have special aggravations to annoy him!

LOL, honestly I'd rather have someone that takes pride in doing things the right way all the time than some of the other kids I get who seem to think they know everything before they have learned anything!

FWIW - if you are looking at opening your own place - skip all that school junk and let him shine at being self taught!   Many damn good chefs have followed that route.  (and many are way more complicated than just the usual claimed OCD)

I wish you all the best and much luck - if you ever have questions you know where I am.

(pm's accepted also of course)

You don't say where you are located. Culinary schools are everywhere these days. Could you explain what you mean when you say you are having trouble finding any?

What do you mean by special needs? I thought every one learned by repetition. That's how i've learned many things.

Culinary school will take two years so if you want to open your own place in a year or two, you have conflicting goals.

Why baking and soup making as ultimate goals? Are you wanting him to learn to cook generally or are you only focused on what you plan to serve in the restaurant you hope to open? There are lots of cookbooks around. Is he reading those and practicing at home?  Are there restaurants nearby he can work at to gain experience?

A bit more information would help.
