Chive flowers

As a kid I heard that we should never let chives go to flowering stage. That was silly, they are very edible. Just my two cents.

Well, as i understand it, when an herb has gone to seed there isn't much reason to keep producing leaves.  It's fulfilled its purpose so it stops producing leaves.  That;s certainly the case with basil.

But i also notice that when i chop off a clump of chives, the ones with the flowers often have developed a very hard core.  Not pleasant under the teeth.
