I like these very much.. I will start learning once I get my molds.. I ordered my molds from ebay.. very inexpensive.. I saw a video and I think they easy to make..   it is agar-agar jello cake..

Thanks FP, I searched for cakes like these and yes they were made by either, Chinese, Vietnamese or Malaysia. I think they are beautiful.

Those are gorgeous! It takes an artist to do a regular cake as it is but those are even more artistic. I am curious as to how this turns out for you and I might even try one myself. Let me know how you make out ok?

thank u Jewels..  the one with the Gold fish calls for a special mold..like this one..I got it from ebay lastnight and I cannot wait to try it.. hopefully it will come out fine.

you'll have to post a pic after you do so I can see how it turned out. Also, how do these taste? Sometimes these can be quite tasteless even though they are pretty?

The video that I saw was agar agar, sugar, coconut cream and water. She boiled them then added color. I am planning on making the jello part then put it on top of plain cheesecake as a topper or something like that. I will post it after I do it.

ya' know, having lived the majority of my life in Hawaii, I've had a couple of these (I forget what they call it) and I wasn't a fan of the taste.  They sure are pretty.  Japanese pastry chefs do the cheesecake type of thing too, again pretty but ...

I live near a Vietnamese neighborhood and they sell miniature versions of those molds in the grocery stores very inexpensively.  I always wondered what they were used for. (I've used them for paper-casting with cotton paper pulp!) I've never seen the actual cakes made up from them, though. The ones you posted are beautiful. I have seen and tried plain, unadorned little layered versions but like Kaneohegirlinaz, I wasn't a fan of the flavor--or the texture, for that matter.

 

I'm not sure if they are Vietnamese or Chinese, though. Many, if not most, of the Vietnamese immigrants in my neighborhood--especially the ones who own businesses- are ethnic Chinese.
