Anyone from Vancouver, BC that can help?

Hello everyone,

I got accepted to culinary school a couple of weeks ago and have also sent in my student loan application, however, I am struggling with some of my retraining program application paperwork.  I need to interview several people who work in the industry (1/2 in management) and am finding it difficult to do so.  I have spoken to friends & family and haven't been able to come up with enough interviewees.

Was hoping there might be some here who would be willing to help or have any helpful suggestions.  I have sent many emails to different establishments though only received one response.  Should I just start calling and/or walking into restaurants and asking if someone has time to speak to me?

I have 2 weeks left until my deadline so I'm starting to stress out a bit.

Thanks so much in advance for your help & suggestions

Why only Vancouver people? You wouldn't be able to interview people over the phone from other cities?

Unfortunately only around the Greater Vancouver area as they want contacts to be local.  I have friends in Texas & Cali who wanted to help but my case worker informed me interviews from them wouldn't count.

Personal contact, IMHO, is far more likely to result in an interview.

From what you have posted, part of the purpose of obtaining the interviews is to insure that you have investigated the local employment arena and have a clearer understanding as to what you are getting involved in.

Hit the pavement, between serving times, say midmorning and midafternoon, and stop in EVERY food place and see if you can talk with anyone available, dishwashers on up to executive or head chefs.

Find out where cooks and chefs hang out and go there.

Yes the purpose of the package is to make sure I have researched potential job possibilities/options that would be available to me after I have finished school.  Totally understandable as they are going to be the ones paying for 1/2 of my tuition, books & help out with my cost of living for the year.

Thanks for the tips - I was thinking about doing that as well, however, did not know what the best approach would be.
