A small blender

  I am scouting the market for a small blender.  The reason I began looking was because my wife loves Eggs Benedict and I found several easy blender recipes for Hollandaise sauce.  I am an at home cook so I don't need something terribly powerful, we own a full size blender which I used to try the recipe (which the wife liked) I am looking for something easy to clean.  Any suggestions?

Use a whisk instead. Save yourself some money and lots of time cleaning that little blender. The best Hollandaise is made with a simple whisk and a little patience.

An immersion blender (stick blender) is also much more versatile than a jar blender.

 

I own a jar blender but honestly can't remember the last time I used it. (was probably for smoothies or something anyway!)

Or, y'know, an immersion blender with a whisk attachment (not touting it, but my Cuisinart Smart Stick has one and it's handy sometimes).

Take a look at the NutriBullet small blender/extractor/whatever:

My son got one and it's pretty impressive. I'm speaking mostly from his experience, not so much mine. It's versatile and surprisingly powerful, given that it's just a 600-watt motor.  It's pretty heavy; before checking the specs, I had guessed at least 1100 watts. The recipe book says it handles ice well, but since it's not frozen daiquiri season, we haven't checked that out.

 

It's just $100 at BB&B, and with your 20%-off coupon, seems to me a real bargain, with a couple of pots, two different blades, and a nice recipe booklet.

 

My son also has a VitaMix 5200, and has been living on healthy smoothies for the last year or so (interspersed with the occasional steak or smoked pork shoulder) and he says that, for the healthy mixtures at least, the NutriBullet is a quite-effective stand-in.

 

I'll report on further usage; if anyone has some experience to report, it would be nice to hear it.

That looks like a hopped up Magic Bullet. 

 

For the OP, check out a Cuisinart Smart Stick for your needs. Seems to work well.
