So we're looking to change up some of our presentations and we're all brainstorming ideas so I was curious if any of you had any unique pieces that you plate food on. I have seen things like bread cutting boards, slate plates, unglazed tiles from home depot and other stones from old countertop and things of that nature but anything you guys have to offer to broaden my horizons would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
What unique items do you guys use to plate on?
Check with your local health dept.
I know one place I worked at they spent a fortune getting some really cool presentation platters made of stone, wood, clear water filled hollow plastic plates and double layer cast iron sizzlers with fondue fuel in the bottom (just enough to make some heat and flame).
Made for an amazing elemental themed presentation.
All except for the cast iron where found to be 'unacceptable' and even then the cast iron could not burn any fuel except plain alcohol as it 'might' have contact with the food and thus contaminate it. Plain old booze though was too dangerous as it could slosh while ignited.
They saw maybe 3 services before the local authorities showed up and shut it down.
