Hi all, stumbled onto this site by accident while I was researching sources for slab bacon, of all things. Lil about me...Former police officer (retired early due to disability), Motorcycle rider, serious foodie (well...not *too* serious), homebrewer, Husband 19 years and dad to 2 boys (If wife asks, I listed that first).
Discovered food late in life, when I quit smoking at 34 (2005), and realized not only how much I enjoyed all the various flavors, but also how cooking kept my mind off cigs, while at the same time satisfying my "tinkering" habit. Gotten to the point where I have one or two dishes memorized, biggest one for me was figuring out how to recreate my Italian mothers Carbonara (she passed when I was 16...if I knew then what I know now, I would've paid more attention to the "family recipes"...they died when she did....generations of Sicilian masterpieces gone. :(
I'll probably lurk more than anything....have many old posts to browse, no real info to offer to anyone...but I figured I'd get the intro out of the way. :)
